Taking this in a different direction ..... what do we really know about Donald J. Trump, specifically about his relationships with Roy Cohn and the National Enquirer?

My research was triggered by Jack Ruby reaching out to Joe "the Wop" Cataldo, not long before Ruby murdered Oswald. The call to Cataldo was at first allegedly minimized by the FBI because it was to a telephone number in Gloversville, NY, hometown of Ruby's roommate, George Senator. Gloversville also happened to be the hometown of Roy Cohn's close friend, G. David Schine and his sister,  Rene Schine Crown, the daughter-in-law of the chair of the executive committee of General Dynamics, Henry Crown. The Schines' father was J. Meyer Schine, owner of Schine Chain Theaters, the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, and a hotel in Miami allegedly hosting the winter vacations of J. Edgar and Clyde.

Paul Pope stands next to Donald Trump in an undated photo before he was elected president. The Pope family sold the National Enquirer in 1999 to David Pecker of American Media for $412 million. Since then, Pecker admitted working 'in concert' with the Trump campaign to tilt the 2016 election in his favor. 'My father would be absolutely horrified,' said Paul of the National Enquirer today...

Exclusive! Enquirer Editor Buried Stories for CIA!

National Enquirer Reporting Sarah Palin Adultery « Suzie-Q's Truth ...Now it can be told: The founding editor of the National Enquirer gave a freelance photographer’s long-lens photo of a sensitive document in Henry Kissinger’s briefcase to the CIA rather than publish its embarrassing contents.

Or at least that’s what author Paul David Pope says in a forthcoming book.

“Secretary of State Kissinger had attended an international human-rights conference and sat with his back to a viewing balcony, his briefcase open,” Pope writes in the book, an advance copy of which was made available to SpyTalk.

“A freelance photographer on the balcony saw its contents through a long lens and snapped its shutter,” Pope continues. “When the photograph landed on his desk,” the editor of the National Enquirer “could clearly read the topmost sheet in the briefcase, a document with the name of people that no one in government wanted the public to know were involved with the nation’s intelligence apparatus.”
Pope has a unique vantage on this particular story: The editor in question was his father, Gene Pope, founder of the scandal-mongering tabloid. Gene Pope, meanwhile, happened to have reason to turn toward the CIA. Through family connections, he had dodged the Korean War draft by doing a two-year stint with the agency in psychological warfare.

According to his son’s book, Gene Pope obtained other secret information while editor of the Enquirer: documents describing the CIA’s top-secret project to retrieve a sunken Soviet nuclear submarine from the floor of the Pacific with the help of billionaire industrialist Howard Hughes; documents, obtained through a Hughes aide, John H. Meier, “proving that Hughes and the CIA had been connected for years and that the CIA was giving Hughes money to secretly fund, with campaign donations, twenty-seven congressman and senators who sat on sub-committees critical to the agency”; and a list of reporters from mainstream news organizations “who were playing ball with the agency.”

(Former Washington Post reporter Carl Bernstein revealed Cold War-era ties between reporters and the spy agency in a 1977 Rolling Stone magazine piece.)

The case of the Kissinger document was particularly interesting. According to Paul Pope:

“Gene didn’t call the Department of State once he had the photo of the contents of Kissinger’s briefcase. Instead, he called his old employer, the CIA, and offered the negative of the revealing picture to people at the agency with whom he’d kept in contact since the end of his own CIA employment more than two decades earlier.”
“He never ran the photo, nor a word of the story about Hughes and the CIA -- but not because Hughes’s companies were run by mobsters he knew.... “ Paul Pope writes, but “because what was more important to him was to collect chits, IOU’s.”

The CIA did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The CIA-Hughes suppression story was told in slightly different form in the 1990s by the now-defunct APBonline Web site, which specialized in crime news.

"A CIA memo released in response to an APBnews.com Freedom of Information Act request indicates that the spy agency pressured the tabloid not to publish a photo but does not explain or show what the mystery photo image was of," APBonline reported.
The Web site quoted a former Enquirer staffer who "recalls that his first formal instructions at the Enquirer -- from a helpful peer -- were, ‘Never say anything about the CIA, never say anything about the Mafia and never knock Sofia Loren.’ ”

A lot of the Maurice Uchitel saga is a classic immigrant’s tale: Ukrainian refugee moves from manufacturing women’s shoulder pads to owning El Morocco in the late 1960s. From there, things get dicier.

Let’s start with business. Besides the hotel and club, Maurice invested in Scopitone, a video-jukebox technology that swept Europe in the 1960s. The Securities and Exchange Commission thought it was a Mob front. The main partner was Al Malnik, a Miami Beach-based attorney who had mobsters as clients and friends (Malnik has never been indicted or convicted of any crime, but after the death of Meyer Lansky, the Jewish godfather, Reader’s Digest dubbed Malnik his “heir apparent”). Minority investors included Abe Green, a New York City slot-machine baron with deep Mob ties (New Jersey’s Mafia chief, Gerardo Catena, was a principal in Green’s company); Irving Kaye, who was denied a Nevada gaming license because of possible Mob associations; Alfred Miniaci, a 30-year veteran of the coin-machine business, whose claim to fame was hosting the dinner for Frank Costello at which a hit man tried to kill the don; and, Aaron Weisberg, a Las Vegas investor who testified reluctantly in the tax-evasion case of notorious mobster Joseph (Doc) Stacher. It was veritable who’s who of Jewish wiseguys.

The SEC never proved its case. The only scalp they got was Vincent “Jimmy Blue Eyes” Alo, a Genovese crime captain and Lansky associate, who Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau called “one of the most significant organized-crime figures in the United States” and who the SEC was convinced was the real owner, along with New Jersey boss Cartena, of Scopitone. When Jimmy Blue Eyes conveniently forgot the details of how he worked out a deal to get Malnik to give more stock and ownership in Scopitone to Uchitel and the other partners, he was convicted of obstruction of justice and sentenced to five years.

Joe "the Wop" Cataldo owned the Camelot Club in the mid-town Theater District. George Wood was the mob front for U.S. distribution rights to Scopitone, and he also owed gambling debts.
This is the sequel on page 262. I'll post several prequel pages below the text describing George Wood's young widow....

MRS. POPE'S MONEY
Don Sider  SUN-SENTINEL  November 19, 1995
....
IN 1959, LOIS MARRIED William Morris agent George Wood, whose clients
included Sammy Davis Jr., Marlene Dietrich, Rita Hayworth, Frank Sinatra and Natalie Wood, and retired from show business.

"I wanted to get married and have children," she says. "From what I could see, you couldn't be married and have children and still be involved in show business. Something got badly hurt along the way in most cases. I decided that family was more important."

In 1963, George Wood died, "and then I went back to work," Pope says.

Later that year, the young widow met a powerhouse publisher named Generoso Pope Jr. They married in 1965 and had two children. In all, Lois Pope has six children- including one stepdaughter and an adopted son- and nine grandchildren. She loves being a grandmother, taking her 11-year-old twin grandsons to Dolphins games, "jumping up and down, ordering Cokes, swaying back and forth and screaming our lungs out."

"She has a play date with my 10-year-old every Thursday night," says Maria Kessel, Pope's 35-year-old daughter. "That's a very special relationship, and they do it all. Sometimes they go to a restaurant or a movie. Other times they just drive around in the car. With everything else my mother does, she has a very strong feeling about family."

A few years after Lois married Gene Pope, his tabloid, the National Enquirer, which was published in New York and New Jersey before moving to Lantana in 1971, became an international sensation- and a family affair. At one time or another, just about everyone in the family worked at the paper. Lois became art director in 1980 and supervised the design of the tabloid's sensational, screaming covers.

"She knew most of the staff by name," recalls a former editor. "And she wasn't afraid to say hello to them even though they were well down the food chain."

Lois was more popular than her husband, who was a notoriously tough boss.

"He was a tyrant, a complete eccentric," says a former staffer. "He would blow into rages, but the rages were controlled. The veins would stick out at his temples, but he wouldn't scream. He gave me high blood pressure. When your inside phone would ring, you would jump. You lived in fear."...
