Why?

I have to admit, this coup attempt by a fascist President has totally eclipsed my interest in the JFK assassination debate. Both conspiracy theories touch upon weakening the people’s faith in Democracy, but this “Stolen Election” narrative is an order of magnitude more damaging, in my opinion.

Ultimately, my interest in the JFK assassination debate is fighting against a false narrative that attacks Democracy. And I think this forum should address any conspiracy theory that attacks Democracy. Yes, getting into a debate over a conspiracy debate on something that does not attack Democracy, like whether we need a wall or not, is a bad idea. Building a wall along the border is a dumb idea, but I don’t think doing so attacks peoples believe in Democracy.

In the end, I think the two conspiracy theories are closely related enough to be talked about on the same forum.

It’s time. It’s over cooked.

Closing out this thread on January 20th.

Why?

Overcooked? Well, of the first 18 topics on the first page “General Discussion & Debate”, the topics that have attracted the most interest recently, this one topic has had 3,425 posts, while the other 17 topics have a combined 4,012 posts. That is 46% of the posts for these 18 topics. So, this is, I guess, a little overcooked. This topic may have set a record for the most posts in a 6-month period.

Perhaps Duncan can move this topic to “Off Topic”, if it is not too much trouble.

Space Force Members Will Be Called 'Guardians'

https://www.npr.org/2020/12/19/948375055/space-force-members-will-be-called-guardians

The newest branch of the Military, to go along with Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines which last year was given the name “Space Force”, has a new name for its members, “Guardians”. The name of the branch is still “Space Force”, not “Guardians” or “Guardians formerly known as Space Force”. But the members of the military are now called Soldiers, Sailors and Guardians”. While this is an exciting development, don’t expect Space Force to beat Alabama anytime soon.

The primary task of the Guardians will be to track down and detain any Illegal Space Alien, including any Reptilian, even if they are disguised as a Caucasian. Except, of course, those with a proper Green card or found wearing MAGA gear. Any Illegal Reptilian is then to be escorted them back to their home planet by a squad of Guardians.

I think the name “Guardians” is quite good. Its important to pick a good Sci-Fi Movie name as the basis of the new name so “Guardians of the Galaxy” was a good choice. “Galaxy Questers” or “Starship Troopers” would have been bad choices, particularly in light of the events of January 6 which the President considers to be quite unfortunate. Not so much because of the violence but because it somehow failed to give him four more years.

In hindsight, the President should have given a slightly longer speech:

Quote
We’re going to walk down to the Capitol, and we’re going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women, and we’re probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them, because you’ll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength, and you have to be strong.

This is all well and good, but he also needed to add:

Quote
You have to show strength, and you have to be strong. And you have to be thorough. You have to check out every nook and cranny.

He forgot that these people aren’t good at figuring out the obvious.

Well, after all, this was their first coup. They’ll do better next time. Even the Nazis didn’t get it right the first time. It’s always a bad idea to launch a coup from a beer hall which invites the Storm Troopers to get loaded just when they need to be at their sharpest.

Some may wonder why the President would waste his time evaluating names for the members of the Space Force during the midst of a pandemic. But I say whatever diverts him from his next assault on Congress is fine with me.

Hundreds of Iowa's voters change party affiliation after Capitol Hill riots

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/thousands-of-iowa-s-voters-change-party-affiliation-after-capitol-hill-riots/ar-BB1cQ7Fa?ocid=msedgntp

Quote
From our records its appears that somewhere over 1,300 Republican voters have changed across the state,
told Miller.

Quote
Since the chaos at the capitol, 158 Linn County Republicans switched their affiliation.  That is 11.5% of the 1,376 statewide voters to flip sides in the last two weeks. While majority of the switches were Republicans, 14 registered voters in Linn county have joined the GOP since January 7th.

So, in Linn County, 158 have dropped out of the GOP since January 7. Although, curiously, 14 have joined. I guess they thought the Republican Party was too wimpy. But January 6 made them realize that the GOP was the party for Ass Kickers and they wanted to be a part of it. The Democratic mascot is obsolete. Ok. Whatever.

This is just a foretaste to what is coming. I’m not doing anything extra until two weeks after my second vaccination. But then I will switch. I suspect that a lot of others are waiting for that as well. The effects of all this will be felt in November 2022 and I think the results will be quite dramatic, possibly exceeding anything seen in 1932.

In Europe a joke circulates that goes like this;

Bush, Obama and Trump all die in an aircrash and appear before God.

God asks Bush "What do you believe in", to which Bush answers "A strong economy and an even stronger America".
God says ok, and tells him to sit to his right.

He then turns to Obama and asks him the same thing. Obama replies; "I believe in social justice, equal opportunity for all, healthcare for all and a fair minimum wage". God tells him to sit next to him on his left side.

Then he turns to Trump and asks him what he believes. Trump replies; "I believe you are sitting in my chair"

Kinda says it all, doesn't it?
