Furthermore if the assassin (or assassins) went into the trunk of a car after firing the shots, as Holland suggests is a possibility, then why didn't Bowers see a man or men getting into a trunk of a car?

That's an impossible question to answer. And even if it could be answered, it wouldn't get you very far because Bowers not seeing these men get into a car doesn't mean it didn't happen.

This is the vicinity where 2 men can be seen with groundskeeper Hudson on the steps leading down from the picket fence to Elm street.

Its likely that the two men who Bowers saw behind the picket fence had moved down near Hudson at the time of the actual shots and this is why Holland doesn't see anyone when he runs to the back of the picket fence.

If he was watching them all the time. There is no point in speculating.

I watched a short interview with Bowers once, in which he seemed to be vague and not really forthcoming with details. Even if he did see the men get into a car, he may simply not have said out of fear to get involved in something he didn't want to be involved with. We will never know. The answer died with Bowers.

Lee Bowers was reticent about even telling his own parents what he saw on the day. According to them, what he actually saw he may have told to his brother, he died (and I guess he never told their parents also).
