Maryland GOPers defend fellow Republican implicated in Trump meeting to overturn 2020 election

On Thursday, The Baltimore Sun reported that prominent Maryland Republicans are refusing to do anything to condemn Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) following reports of his close involvement with the effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

"The Baltimore Sun reached out to 10 state Republicans, including state party leaders, elected officials and candidates, seeking their opinion on the U.S. House panel’s finding Tuesday that Harris met with Trump and other GOP representatives at the White House and discussed a strategy in which Vice President Mike Pence would reject state electors’ tallies," reported Jeff Barker. "The committee says the plan — which Pence did not follow — was illegal, and Democratic candidates hoping Tuesday’s primary election earns them the chance to run against Harris this fall have called the six-term Republican a 'traitor' seeking to subvert democracy."

However, according to the Sun, some Republican officials in Maryland are largely still defending him — by trying to falsely claim Democrats did the same thing.

“Questioning the outcome of a presidential election is nothing new. Hillary Clinton told her supporters not to accept her loss in 2016,” said state Del. Kathy Szeliga to the paper, evidently unaware that Clinton conceded the election the next morning. Baltimore Republican Party official Tom Kennedy also claimed Rep. Jamie Raskin tried to overturn the 2016 election, saying “What everyone forgets is that, thanks to the Democrats, objecting to election results has practically become an American tradition.” (Raskin did not try to overturn the 2016 election.)

Meanwhile, according to the report, "Six Maryland Republicans, including state party chair Dirk Haire, gubernatorial candidates Dan Cox and Kelly Schulz, and Republican National Committeewoman Nicolee Ambrose did not respond Wednesday or Thursday to Sun emails or texts about Harris sent to them or their spokespersons. Mike Ricci, a spokesperson for Republican Gov. Larry Hogan, referred a reporter to an interview Hogan gave Wednesday on WBAL radio.

The two-term governor, when asked about the significance of Harris’ attendance at the White House meeting, told the station: 'Well, I don’t know anything about the meeting and unfortunately I had about a 14-hour day [Tuesday] so I wasn’t watching television so I didn’t see the hearing.'"

For his part, Harris himself has dodged reporters following the revelations about his involvement in the 2020 plotting.

President Biden @POTUS

This morning I sat down with Israeli Prime Minister Lapid to sign a new strategic U.S.-Israel partnership based on a bedrock of shared values, our commitment to preserve and strengthen Israel's defense capabilities, and a true and enduring friendship.

I had the pleasure to join the first leaders meeting of the United States, India, Israel, and the United Arab Emirates.

Together, the I2U2 will harness the vibrancy and entrepreneurial spirit of our nations to tackle some of the greatest challenges confronting our world.

Israeli President Herzog and I met earlier today to discuss the U.S.’ ironclad support for Israel’s security and efforts to widen the circle of peace in the region.

I celebrate our nation's deep bond with Israel.

Through my decades of service, I've watched Israel grow into its founding fathers' and mothers' wildest dreams.

It was my honor to be awarded the Israeli Presidential Medal of Honor.

In order to get an accurate representation of polling, you need to go by the polling averages. One political poll does not give you an accurate account of the numbers because the poll could be heavily skewed to the right or the left. That's why you go by the polling averages, since several polls are averaged in together which gives you the most accurate representation.

There have been four new polls conducted for the 2022 midterm election in the last week and all of them show Democrats leading Republicans. One poll shows Democrats up by 1 point, two polls show Democrats up by 4 points, and another poll has Democrats up by 5. So, Democrats have close to a 4 point lead over Republicans for 2022 in these latest polls. And that's not averaging in the polls taken from before.

Polls have been telling us for months that ending Roe would galvanize the Democratic electorate and fundamentally change the election.

Poll after poll taken since June 24th show the election has fundamentally changed, moving 3-5 pts towards Democrats.

Brand new polling from Morning Consult/Politico

Generic Congressional Ballot:

Democrats 46% (+4)
Republicans 42%

Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock @SenatorWarnock

We need to be clear about what Washington Republicans did yesterday: they blocked a Senate bill—without a vote—that would reaffirm Americans rights to travel between U.S. states.

We should all be outraged. #BansOffOurBodies

GOP lawmaker who said 2020 was rigged is accused of election fraud

The Republican nominee to be New York's governor has been accused of election fraud, threatening his chances of having his name under the Independence Party on the November ballot, Newsweek reports.

Lee Zeldin was a supporter of former President Donald Trump's false claims that the 2020 election was stolen. As a GOP congressman, he voted against the certification of the election's results, saying, the "debate is necessary because rogue election officials, secretaries of state and courts circumvented state election laws."

But according to Newsweek, nearly 13,000 signatures on petitions for Zeldin to appear on the Independence Party line on the ballot have been invalidated by the New York State Board of Elections after the New York Libertarian Party's secretary, Andrew Kolstee, alleged that around 11,000 of Zeldin's signatures were copies of other pages.

The 13,000 now-invalidated signatures bring Zeldin below the required number of signatures to appear on the ballot.

"While petition signature fraud is different than voter fraud, which Trump alleged had occurred in 2020, it is considered a form of election fraud according to the conservative Heritage Foundation," Newsweek reports. "The right-wing organization describes 'ballot petition fraud,' which is defined as "forging the signatures of registered voters on the ballot petitions that must be filed with election officials in some states for a candidate or issue to be listed on the official ballot," as a 'type' of election fraud."

President Biden @POTUS

Today, I met with President Abbas of the Palestinian Authority.

I believe the Palestinian people deserve to live lives of dignity and opportunity, and to give hope to their children that they will one day enjoy the same freedom and self-determination as their neighbors.

The Palestinian city of Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus Christ, is a place of enormous significance to me and Christians across the world.

This Holy Land and the Church of the Nativity remind us that everyone must be free to practice their faith in peace, safety, and dignity
