Hawley is only senator to vote against Finland, Sweden NATO membership
Quote
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) was the only senator to vote against a resolution on Wednesday backing Finland’s and Sweden’s entry to NATO.

The Senate approved the resolution in a 95-1 vote. One senator, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), voted present.

The resolution backs Finland and Sweden joining NATO. The House approved a resolution in a bipartisan 394-18 vote last month that formally supported the two Nordic countries joining the military alliance. All opposition in the House came from the Republican Party.

Hawley’s vote against the resolution did not come as a surprise. He had announced his intent to vote against the resolution earlier this week, outlining his opposition in an op-ed published by The National Interest.

He said he does not believe the U.S. should expand its security commitments in Europe, because America’s “greatest foreign adversary” is China.

The only one in the US Senate with a brain. Sad
This would mean that if the Ruskies decide to attack/invade Finland everybody in NATO will have to chime in together and go to war.
The USA has the weakest/most pitiful military in it's recent history.
The pull out from Afghanistan demonstrated the incompetence mentioned.

The USA has the best military in the world.

Incompetence of Afghanistan came from Donald Trump and Mile Pompeo who made the deal with the Taliban.

The United States has been the world’s leading maritime power for decades. However, the U.S. Navy could find itself in China’s wake if current trends continue, analysts say.

Washington and Beijing are now locked in great power competition.

“The biggest challenge for U.S. national security leaders over the next 30 years is the speed and sustainability of the [People’s Republic of China] national effort to deploy a global navy,” said retired Capt. James Fanell, who previously served as head of intelligence for the Pacific Fleet.

The modernization of the Chinese navy, also known as the PLA Navy, has been underway since the 1990s, and its fleet has greatly expanded.

In its annual report on China published last year, the Defense Department stated that its Asian rival has more than 300 surface combatants, submarines, amphibious ships, patrol craft and other specialized vessels.

In 2019, China had a 335-ship fleet, about 55 percent larger than in 2005, according to a recent Congressional Research Service report titled, “China’s Naval Modernization: Implications for U.S. Navy Capabilities — Background and Issues for Congress.”

Won't argue that but Butterfingers Biden fumbled the ball when it was handed off his way...
...leaving Americans and billions in equipment and arms behind [just like Vietnam]

Even Republicans are ripping pro Putin and pro insurrectionist right wing Senator Josh Hawley for being the only "NO" vote. What a disgrace.

Josh Hawley ripped by fellow Republican senators

Republican senators are ripping Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., for casting the lone vote to reject Finland and Sweden's admission to NATO as tensions between the U.S. and Russia continue to escalate.

Hawley's solitary vote came on Wednesday amid a bipartisan push to pass a resolution that would allow NATO membership for both countries, a move that advocates have argued is a "slam dunk" for bolstering national security.

Days before the resolution was passed, the Missouri senator released an op-ed arguing that expanding NATO would deplete resources that could be used to guard against military and economic encroachment from China.

"U.S. resources are not unlimited. Already we spend the better part of a trillion dollars a year on defense. And our manpower is already stretched thin across the globe. The United States must prioritize the defense resources we have for the China effort, while there is still time," Hawley wrote earlier this week. "Until our European allies make the necessary commitments to their own national defense, we must not put more American lives at risk in Europe while allowing China's power to grow unchecked."

That argument has not sat well with just about any of Hawley's party colleagues, who have stressed that expanding NATO in fact further protects the U.S. from China.

"We don't beat China by retreating from the rest of the world," Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tex., told Politico. "We beat China by standing with our allies against our enemies."

"A strong and unified NATO is a powerful asset in the contest with Beijing," Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., echoed in his own op-ed. "When Finland and Sweden join the alliance's ranks and the free peoples of Europe become stronger than ever, more US resources will be available to focus on countering Communist China."

Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., meanwhile said it would be "strange indeed for any senator who voted to allow Montenegro or North Macedonia into NATO to turn around and deny membership to Finland and Sweden," alluding to the fact that Hawley supported the entrance of both countries to NATO back in 2019, as Insider noted.

It isn't the first time that Hawley has deviated from the congressional majority on matters of foreign policy. Back in May, Hawley joined a cohort of eleven Republican senators who opposed providing Ukraine, which was under invasion by Russia, with $40 billion in military and economic aid. At the time, he expressed fears that the move would encourage Europe to "freeload" off of the U.S.

Poor Biden.  I almost feel sorry for the guy.  He was never the brightest of bulbs even before his dementia.  His family and political party exploited him because they knew none of the other candidates had a chance in a national election.  Now, after two years of disaster after disaster, the Dems in his party are clamoring for him to announce that he won't run again.  None of them want him to campaign for them.  None of them will even say that they would endorse him if he ran!  Suddenly he is too old and incompetent (just like Trump said all along).  An incredible distancing from a failed president.  Nothing like his drop in the polls in American political history.  Literally a trainwreck.

What President Biden has done for the economy, jobs, and GDP is truly historic. And all this during a global pandemic.

The economy has grown 3.4 times faster under Joe Biden than it did under Donald Trump.

GDP growth scorecard by recent Presidencies.

Economy has grown almost twice as fast under Biden as it did under the last GOP Presidents.

Republicans have no real standing to criticize Biden on the economy.

Their last 3 Presidents have brought recession, exploding deficits and clear economic decline - its among the worst run of economic performances in US history.

Since 1989 45 million net new jobs have been created in the United States.

43 million - 96% - have been created under Democratic Presidents.

Yet nobody in the media ever mentions this important fact.

Here's another cut on GDP growth data by recent Presidencies.

Biden has 3 times the growth than Trump who barely hit 1%. Biden in less than two years is way above the 2 Bushes.
