Nixon in Dallas: Nov. 22, 1963

Is it just a coincidence that Richard Nixon was in Dallas on the morning of Nov. 22, 1963?  Three presidents, present and future, would be in Dallas on that day. What does it mean?  Probably nothing.  But there are those who still say Nixon actually won the 1960 presidential election.

Without any other evidence, yes it was a coincidence with, from what I've read, Nixon simply meeting executives for Pepsi-Cola, the company he worked for as a lawyer. He left that morning and was in New York when the assassination took place. So I see nothing sinister at all.

Of course, some conspiracists say George Bush was in Dallas that day so one could say four president were there. As to the election, even if you toss out Illinois and the alleged theft of votes by the Daley Machine in Chicago JFK would still have won the electoral vote. So the claim that Nixon won falls apart unless one includes other states.

How well did Nixon pull off the Watergate conspiracy and cover that up?  Compare that relatively simple event in which he had the power of the presidency in his hands to pulls strings compare with the complexity of assassinating the president, framing Oswald, having Oswald killed, and then keeping the lid on it forever as a private citizen.  And how would Nixon's presence in Dallas that morning advanced that effort?  If he had been involved, Dallas is the very last place on Earth that he would have been that day.  Just a quirk of fate.

So was Oswald.  He had his own Mommie Dearest problems, though.

Going to Russia wasn’t far enough away from her. But his letters to her when he needed her help to get back to the USA sure were “nice.”

Yes, he turned his back on her and the family when he first arrived. Told Robert to go to hell. Then when he needed them it was suddenly a different matter.

He abandoned his family for the USSR but wanted them back later when he needed them. Then he was willing to abandon Marina when he tried to kill Walker. But wanted her back when he failed. Then he was willing, again, to abandon them when he tried to defect to Cuba. But wanted her back when he was rejected.

Finally, he abandoned them once and for all on November 22, 1963. Giving them $170. And his wedding ring. Swell guy, just swell.

Don't forget that he been trying to ship Marina and his own kids back to Russia.  But Old Ozzie showed up on that Thursday to "save his marriage" according to some of our resident CTers.  It had nothing to do with the rifle.  Just more bad luck that it couldn't have waited one more day.
