Of course there are more than one person named John Mytton. It just isn't the real name of the member on this forum using that name, and he has admitted as much.

Who cares?

I love the phrase "admitted as much," as though this required an "admission."  :D Especially coming from someone who is doing the same thing!

Cross-examining attorney: "Do you ADMIT, Mr. Mytton, that you post on obscure internet forums using the name of a 19th Century British eccentric? Well, DO YOU OR DO YOU NOT ADMIT THIS? And yet you expect this jury to believe that you, who have ADMITTEDLY appropriated a noted historical figure's name for your own selfish purposes, are innocent of the heinous crimes with which you are charged? Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the prosecution rests."

In my long posting history, I have been, at least, Pastor Lance, Runner, Irkle Berserkle, Little Bo Peep, The Venerable Bede, Troglodyte74, Bingo and probably 25 others. I have great fondness for my Venerable Bede persona, may he rest in peace.

Sock puppets? That's a different story. Most forums explicitly prohibit them because they are fundamentally dishonest and serve no purpose other than to deceive. But you already knew that - right, mate?

This thread is rapidly becoming my absolutely most-favorite-ever Monty Python skit, and I've been doing this internet forum thing for almost 30 years.

Holy cow, what have I waded into?

I now find from 2022 an extensive debate as to whether "Martin" is or was one "Otto Beck." How many others have there been?

Sorry now I even opened this can of worms because you, Martin/Tom/Otto/Whoever are too much for me.

Sock puppet to your heart's content if it makes you happy, Martin/Tom/Otto/Whoever.

Thanks, I forgot about Otto and his $100,000 challenge to prove that he wasn't Weidmann! Ya gotta laugh.

And here's another couple of classic quotes.

Weidmann "As my old Law Professor used to say"
Roger Collins, "I'm a Lawyer"

You can't make this stuff up. :D

Hi all,

My name is Tim Nickerson. People call me Tim Nickerson.

And that's why you're simply no fun.  :D If I didn't admit Lance Payette was John Mytton just to scramble "Martin's" brains, Lance would be no fun either.

When Peter Sellers was introduced to people, even serious people in real life, just to throw them off he'd say, "Very pleasant to meet you, Mr. Nickerson, if that is in fact your real name."

My father, born in 1908, had the unlikely name Alcide John Payette. When I began genealogical research, I was astonished to find, in Hawaii, the grave of Alcide John Payette, born in 1908. It wasn't my father. On the other hand, my father never felt the need to resort to sock puppets. If there is another Lance B. Payette (other than John Mytton, of course), I've never stumbled across him.

You are way too desperate to "prove" who you are, so let me help you. I don't care who you are or claim to be. If you want me to call you Lance, I will. Does that help you?

So much desperation, when I have already left you off the hook.

Just like "Mytton" you really can't help yourself, can you?

Now you've just gone and put some doubt in my own mind about my real identity. Thanks a lot buddy.  >:(

Your name's not Buddy by any chance?
