At the so-called Education Forum, James "Jumbo Duh" DiEugenio is asking about Commission Exhibit No. 2788, a passport-sized photo of Oswald which is identical to the one Sylvia Duran allegedly stapled to Oswald's Cuban Visa application at the Cuban Consulate in Mexico City.

The Warren Commission's description of the photo says "Photo of Lee Harvey Oswald taken after his return from Russia. Marina Oswald had not previously seen this photograph," but I believe the photo was taken while Oswald was living in the USSR, that four copies were made, and that one (or two?) of them were provided to Duran by "The Blond Oswald In Mexico City," KGB Colonel Nikolai Leonov, who was not actually pretending to be Oswald, but who, with permission from / acquiescence of Fidel Castro, was telling Duran and Eusebio Azcue what to do and say.
.
Here's the photo DiEugenio is asking John Armstrong's protege David Josephs about at the EF:

One clue is that Oswald appears to be wearing that same sweater vest in a couple of different photos which were definitely taken in the USSR.

Another clue is that Oswald had in his scrap book / photo book some other multiple, passport-sized photos of people he apparently knew in Minsk.

Finally, evidence that the photo(s) on his visa application probably weren't taken in Mexico City and therefore may have been taken in the USSR is that the FBI claimed it had asked all of the photo shops within walking distance of the Cuban consulate if they remembered Oswald or had taken the visa photo(s), and they all said "No".

PS  Why believe anything probable KGB-Honeytrapper Marina says about anything?

The Cuban consulate official/secretary, Silvia Duran, who processed the application, said this in her HSCA testimony about the photographs:

CORNWELL - Nevertheless, he did leave to go get photographs, and he did return?
TIRADO - Yes.
CORNWELL - Did he return with the photographs?
TIRADO - With four photographs.
CORNWELL - Four of them.
TIRADO - Yeah.
CORNWELL - Were they all the same? To the best of your memory, was he wearing the same kind of clothes that he was wearing that day in the photographs?
TIRADO - Yes.
CORNWELL - So, from all the circumstances, did it appear to your that he just went somewhere locally and had the pictures made?
TIRADO - Yeah. I think that I already explained (to) him where he could take the photographs.
CORNWELL - You told him some locations in town where ge could go? Were there some right in the neighborhood of the Consulate there?
TIRADO - That I don't remember.
CORNWELL - All right. But at any rate you knew of some place at the time, mentioned one or two places to him?
TIRADO - Yes.
CORNWELL - Correct?... Did you look at the photos when he brought them back, careful about to be sure that it was the same man who was standing in front of you?
TIRADO - Yes.
CORNWELL - And what did you do at that time?
TIRADO - I filled out application.

Hmm. The Oswald in the photos certainly looked to have more hair and a "fuller" face then the Oswald arrested for the assassination. It does seem to me that if you look at all of the evidence that these were not taken in Mexico City, not at that time but were photos Oswald had from an earlier date.

Steve M.,

Thanks.

I actually hadn't noticed the fuller face and hair, but you're right.

Hmm, indeed.

EDIT:

DiEugenio appears to be a bit perplexed. Too bad he doesn't realize the photo(s) on Oswald's Cuban visa application probably originated in the USSR.

He edited his most recent post on the EF's "New Information On Oswald In Mexico City " thread nine hours ago and now reads:

"David [Josephs],

Do you know the source of the passport photo?

You must know that the FBI asked every passport photo shop in a five mile radius and  no one recalled Oswald."

LOL

Josephs' rely to Jumbo Duh.  (Truth-be-told, neither of them has a clue.)

Jim ["Jumbo Duh" DiEugenio] asked about the source of the 4 passport-like photos [of Oswald] ....

My gut tells me they had to do with 544 Camp...

FPCC and Oswald’s sheep dipping.   The white shirt and tie...   the expression is almost the same....

Wouldn’t an application sent to Cuba with his photo on it go a long way to create Bona fides for Ozzie’s FBI work?

With as many assets in Mexico City as the US intel community had, getting an application sent couldn’t be that difficult...

but just a thought....

[Deleted here because it won't show up: a frame/photo showing Oswald passing out pro-Castro FPCC fliers with Charles Hall Steele, Jr. in New Orleans in August of 1963.]
